Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and raised blood pressure accounts for over 50% of cardiovascular diseases. You are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure if you are:

  • > 50 years
  • Male
  • A smoker
  • Overweight
  • Suffer from diabetes
  • Live an unhealthy lifestyle

Our pharmacist at Mackies Pharmacy provides in-store blood pressure testing to help you stay on track with your blood pressure.

Diabetes is a disease which causes blood sugar (glucose) levels in the body to rise. Long-term (chronic) raised blood sugar levels can lead to a number of complications including eye problems, foot problems, nerve damage, kidney diseases and an increased risk of a heart attack and stroke.  You are more likely to suffer from raised blood glucose levels if you are:

  • > 45 years
  • A smoker
  • Overweight
  • Physically inactive (exercise <2/week)
  • Live an unhealthy lifestyle
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels

Our pharmacist at Mackies Pharmacy provides in-store blood glucose testing to help you stay on track with your blood glucose levels.

A urine test is a test which measures the presence of several substances in urine, such as blood, protein and bacteria. Abnormal levels of certain substances in your urine indicate the presence of an underlying condition such as urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney disease and high blood pressure. Urine testing does not need to be performed regularly, but there are some symptoms you may want to look out for that may warrant testing:

  • Cloudy urine
  • Foul smelling urine
  • Increased frequency or urgency to pass urine
  • Pain or discomfort whilst urinating
  • Pain in the loins
  • Waking up at night to pass urine

Our pharmacist at Mackies Pharmacy provides in-store urine testing in order to ensure that there aren’t any abnormalities.

The Pharmacy of Your Choice (POYC) scheme is a national pharmaceutical service which provides thousands of patients suffering from a chronic disease with free medicines and/or pharmaceutical devices through the government, under the legislation of Schedule V and Schedule II.

Mackies Pharmacy forms part of the pharmacy of your choice (POYC) scheme, for you to collect your free medicines at your convenience.
